- Bacterial Zoonoses: Common infections such as Anthrax (Bacillus anthracis), Brucellosis, Leptospirosis, and Plague (Yersinia pestis).
- Viral Zoonoses: High-consequence pathogens including Rabies, Avian Influenza (Bird Flu), Ebola, and Japanese Encephalitis.
- Parasitic Zoonoses: Diseases where animals serve as the primary reservoir or intermediate host, such as Toxoplasmosis (often linked to cats), Hydatid disease (echinococcosis, linked to dogs/sheep), and Trichinellosis (linked to undercooked pork).
- Fungal Zoonoses: Infections like Ringworm (Dermatophytosis) easily caught from household pets.
3. Epidemiological Core Concepts
The textbook addresses how these conditions spread and how public health systems control them:
- Transmission Dynamics: Analyzing direct contact, vectors (mosquitoes, flies), foodborne consumption, or waterborne contamination.
